HVAC Crew Description:
Students on this crew are responsible for the maintenance and repair of all heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems for every building on campus. These responsibilities include routine system inspections, maintenance of boilers, cleaning of equipment, changing of air filters, preparing for each new season of heating and cooling, preventative maintenance on all equipment, and answering work orders for repairs.
Students have the opportunity to learn general job safety practices, how to use the tools of the trade, and how to blow down steam boilers, clean chiller coils, identify malfunctions before they become problematic, and keep all HVAC equipment operating in accordance to EPA regulations. Students are also able to work with and learn more about direct digital control systems, their management and general uses, as well as how to plan for and implement cost effective, energy efficient HVAC machinery.
