WWC Panama Project receives ESRI Conservation Grant

Warren Wilson College and a conservation nonprofit in Panama have received an ESRI Conservation Grant to conduct research using geographical information systems (GIS) on a nature reserve in the Panamanian rainforest. The grant includes GIS software and software extensions worth more than $6,500, as well as a pass to the international GIS conference in San Diego and enrollment in an advanced GIS class led by ESRI.

The grant will help support a $100,000 three-year research project conducted by WWC and CREA (Conservation through Research, Education and Action) to implement an environmental GIS and wireless sensor network on a 1,000-acre nature reserve in Panama (see for more about this project.
