Donating archival materials to the Warren Wilson College Archives

The Warren Wilson College Archives is grateful to accept appropriate collections about the college and its predecessor schools. Donations from alumni and families beyond the campus are an important source of history and the life-blood of any archives.
When you donate, we ask that you first contact the archivist, Diana Ruby Sanderson. She can advise you as to what materials are appropriate. We must be good stewards of our limited space, so it is impossible to accept absolutely everything. At this time we cannot take very large collections and large museum-type items.
After your collection has been appraised and received into the archives, Diana and her staff of student archivists will preserve it. Services include:

The archives is temperature (68° year-round) and humidity (37-43%) controlled.

Organize the materials, if appropriate

Describe the collection via a finding aid. The finding aid will be mounted on the Archives website; eventually it will be put into a database.

Housed in acid-free files folders & boxes; photographs will be individually sleeved in archival-safe plastic sleeves.

After we've performed basic preservation and have a preliminary inventory of the contents (the finding aid may come later), we make it available for research.

We reserve the right to use parts of it in exhibits to highlight the archives.

When it is used in research for papers, articles, etc. we require complete citations.

If you would like to get the process started, you can download the Deed of Gift Form and write up an inventory of your collection.
